Fantasy dramas are an entertainment form across known space, although Vulcans have no contemporary form like it. The 1987-90 C.E. series Beauty and the Beast of Earth centered on the relationship between a New York City assistant district attorney and a lionesque man-beast who lived beneath the city. When it first aired on Earth, this series had a dedicated fan following. Long after the series left the air, it continued to be watched and enjoyed due to its storyline and quality of production. Actor Ron Perlman's performance as Vincent is one of the most memorable on Terran television.
Although many episodes of the series existed in private collections, the remainder of the series was thought lost after World War III, until construction in the outskirts of the destroyed Los Angeles area in the 23rd Century uncovered a vault containing thousands of hours of television programming, including the entire series of Beauty and the Beast. Vulcans find it hard to understand this genre of entertainment, especially since love and loss are so personal and private in their culture. Vulcans do believe this series reveals important things about the human psyche and culture.
Below you will find a sampling of vocabulary that you might find associated with the world of the 1987-90 C.E. Beauty and the Beast series in video. (Names are listed in pure alphabetical order by title, if any, first name then last name, since names are sorted using the Vulcan standard.) This list may include variations in spelling and pronunciation.
