Soon after first contact with Earth, the Vulcans began an intensive project to translate major works of human literature into their languages. It was felt that this was important in order to better understand humans. These translations rapidly increased after the founding of the United Federation of Planets. The first major work of literature to be completely translated into a Vulcan language was The North American Revised Standard Bible, last revised two years before Earth's Third World War. At the time it was originally published, it was considered the most definitive and accurate version of The Holy Bible ever produced. Its new "accuracy" was based on translations of additional ancient texts discovered by archeologists early in the 21st Century in the Mediterranean and Middle East.
Membership in most of the Earth's major religions dropped to a very small fraction of previous levels following the Third World War. During the period of the so-called "Post-Atomic Horror", people who openly practiced Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and other religions were often executed or forced to give up their beliefs. Although the arrival of the Vulcans on Earth led to a renaissance of human culture and ultimately a strong, united Earth, the major religions of Earth never fully recovered their place in human lives. Contemporary humans embrace hundreds of faiths, many originally from alien races, or have no religious beliefs at all. Despite all of this, many millions of beings throughout the Federation cherish The Bible as a work of faith and inspiration that will last for all time.
In the coming years, we will be very slowly translating The Federation Bible, the modern descendant of The North American Revised Standard Bible. As new books and chapters become available, they will be placed online for all to study and enjoy.
