Zhilikam t'Dzhe'an Dark

This page lists names, places and terminology associated with the remarkable 15th Century C.E. French girl Joan of Arc (Jehanne Darc, Jeanne d'Arc), also known as The Maid of Orléans (La Pucelle d'Orléans), whose life and death has resonated through the centuries on Earth. Her life, faith, battles against the English, trial by the church and martyrdom have been portrayed in books, movies, television programs and stage plays, although most productions do not show that catapults and early cannons (culverins) were used in some of the battles, that she was locked in an iron cage after her capture or was forced to wear a paper hat at her execution. She continues to inspire people more than 600 years after she lived.

The Vulcans prefer to transliterate names based on how the person themselves pronounced it, if known. Joan was actually named Jehanne Darc during her life, although usually called herself Jehanne la Pucelle. (There was no apostrophe in her family name in the French of her time.) Some names are given in their old and modern versions with the 15th Century French pronunciation (or as close as possible) preferred per Vulcan rules. We have tried our best based on material we could find. We have yet to find a clear map of France at the time of Joan, so we can check place names. Someday we will add the Middle English and Middle French translations of terms as well. (If you have seen or read Geoffrey Chaucer's works, you can get an idea of what English looked like 600 years ago.)
