Return to Vulcan Institute of Earth Culture Main Page

Zhilikam t'°Ooch t'Az° heh Tomalik

Vulcan young people and children have long had a fascination with the literary works for young people on other worlds. Interestingly enough, the many Oz® books and movies of Earth continue to have a hold on the imaginations of people across the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. The 1939 film has always been the favorite of fans, and is still viewed centuries later, although silent versions in 1914 and 1925, and an animated film in 1933 had come before it. The 1981 film Return to Oz was an apparent attempt to reboot the stories, although no new Oz film would appear for decades. A three-part 2007 television mini-series Tin Man completely reimagined the Oz story.

Below you will find a sampling of vocabulary that you may find associated with the Oz® books by L. Frank Baum and approved successors, and the movies based on them. We have also included material from Philip Jose Farmer's "A Barnstormer in Oz" book, which tells of Dorothy's adult son in his own adventure over the rainbow many years after she was there. We have not included anything from any of the stage musicals or television mini-series. (Names are listed in pure alphabetical order by title, first name then last name, since names are sorted using the Vulcan standard.)
